Designing swimming pools for yachts

Centro Italia Yachting® creates tailored projects according to every clients' needs. Our swimming pools and whirlpools can adapt to the challenges of any vessel. The initial plan presented to the client undergoes no changes during the construction process, as we use innovative technologies that help us build projects with extreme precision. Hence, whether working directly in a shipyard or remotely, we adhere meticulously to all agreements made with the client.

3D Survey

Our non-contact 3D measurement system, calibrated using artifacts certified by PTB (Physikalisch-Technische Bundesanstalt), captures the complex geometries on the installation surface of a customized pool for yacht or large boats. 3D measurement enables us to reconstruct the structure with hundredth-millimeter scans, capturing details imperceptible to the human eye. Following the 3D survey, we engage in three-dimensional rendering, 3D digitization and manual adjustments to refine construction.

Optical Tracking System

Centro Italia Yachting® optical tracking system measures and evaluates water oscillation to design glass or acrylic walls suitable for use in motion. This tracking technology is applied in various phases:

Pool and whirlpool tub filling. The system displays the equipment displacement margin, even with millimetric movements.
Use of pool or whirlpool on boats. structures undergo specific tests simulating people movements during bathing. In particular, we study the system response during counter-current swimming.
Measurement of fluid speed. Monitoring fluid speed through tracking technology is a preliminary step for designing accessories.

Boat Pools: Features and Technologies

The technical features of our pools and whirlpools for large vessels make our products functional, lightweight and moldable, ensuring maximum onboard safety. Our boat pools can feature different types of structures:

Self-supporting structure, with a female model in polyurethane and a vinyl ester-reinforced tank. For lining, available in gelcoat or mosaic, 1x1 mosaic is often chosen to achieve tight radii.
Recessed structure, customized in preformed high-density nautical EPS or XPS, then glued to the ship hull and made waterproof. Mosaic linings with epoxy grouting are commonly used.

Regardless of the structure type, we can create both glass walls and floors, with options to add luxury features such as waterfalls and hydrotherapy.

Special CEI 18-49 navigation cables are used to connect electrical panels with pumps optimally through dedicated channels. Electrically, our structures recreate conditions akin to a land-based system. The vessel metallic hull serves as a disperser, mimicking being grounded.

Pipes can be either rigid PVC PN10 or flexible PVC.

Underwater accessories such as spotlights or fiber optic lighting are regularly protected to IP68 standards, while non-immersed accessories are safeguarded to IP56 standards.

The backup unit, equipped with autonomous heating and filtration systems, is typically made of steel and contains the required water volume to fill the pool as needed.

Glass Walls

We use Methacrylate PMMA or Laminated Glass for pool walls. These special glass windows are obtained through mass polymerization of monomers via casting. The material stands out for its high resistance to high temperatures, chemicals and harsh weather conditions, along with excellent workability and optical purity. It also shows excellent thermoplastic properties, high rigidity and transparency (92% for colorless sheets). Its optical properties remain unchanged over time.

PMMA sheets are straightforward to install, making them ideal for boat pools and whirlpools positioned in hard-to-reach areas.

Methacrylate PMMA is frequently used for curved glass walls and allows to obtain very tight curve radii, making it adaptable to any shape. The reduced weight of the sheets also makes them suitable for installation on small and lightweight vessels.

For laminated glass walls, Centro Italia Yachting® uses Extraclear Float Laminated Glass (parallel or tempered curved) with transparent PVB or SGP laminated glass which stands out for:

High resistance to water force.
Outstanding brilliance and transparency.
Neutral transmittance with excellent contrast and color rendering.
Protection in case of glass breakage, as it does not release fragments.
Possibility of matching sheets through transparent films.

Pool Onboard: Additional Functions and Decorations

Soundproofing is among the services offered by Centro Italia Yachting®, for which we use innovative techniques in order to make your onboard swimming pool extremely quiet, enhancing comfort and relax during navigation.

Boat pools can also be equipped with coverings (including automatic or semi-rigid, thus walkable ones) to maintain water temperature and cleanliness. Finally, based on each client request, structures can be customized with decorative effects: floorings, mosaics, tiles and any addition according to personal tastes.

Insurance for Maritime Sector

We rely on the DINAMICA BUSINESS 360 navigation insurance, which covers the entire period of intense activities in shipyards both in Italy and abroad. After delivery, the warranty period is subject to territorial extension: RC0 in worldwide territories, RCT for all countries except the USA, Canada and Mexico.
