Centro Italia Yachting® designs and builds movable-floor pools, which can adjust their depth by assuming different positions. This allows for variable-depth pools—a perfect solution, especially when space is limited. When the pool floor is fully raised, the pool area transforms into a walkable surface, creating additional space for other activities.
Advantages of Movable-Floor Pools
Movable-floor pools offer several advantages:
- Pool cleaning is simplified, as the pool can be closed when not in use, preventing dirt accumulation.
- Water temperature is easier to maintain when the pool is covered, resulting in significant energy savings.
- A single solution provides both a swimming pool and a proper cover.
System Description
Centro Italia Yachting® supplies structures made from the following materials:
- A platform, matching the pool’s floor dimensions, made of stainless steel.
- A tubular structure beneath the platform.
- A hydraulic lifting system using vegetable-based oil or an IP68-rated electric system.
- A hydraulic control unit with all necessary components for system operation and management.
Technical Specifications
Centro Italia Yachting® collaborates with engineering firms and architects to integrate its proprietary technology into pool and spa structures. This technology incorporates essential technical elements, including:
- The lifting platform, made of stainless steel or marine-grade wood, has a thickness that, combined with the hydraulic or electric system, forms a structural package that must be factored into the overall depth to ensure the desired water height.
- All accessories, such as filtration nozzles, suction points, and lighting fixtures, must be recessed. The pool floor moves up and down smoothly, skimming the pool walls, which must remain free of any obstructions.
- Movable-floor pools are generally rectangular, but with new technologies, we can accommodate various shapes.
- Once the platform reaches the desired height, it is locked in place by valves that secure the hydraulic fluid, ensuring stability. In specific cases—such as when the movable platform is used as a helicopter landing pad—we can provide additional mechanical or hydraulic safety systems to prevent accidental lowering.
- The hydraulic system uses PETRONAS Arbor Hydraulic 46 Bio-V, a high-pressure, vegetable-based hydraulic fluid. The fluid is pumped into the cylinders, pushing the pistons and extending the scissor-lift mechanism. This system ensures smooth and controlled movement while maintaining stability.
- The scissor-lift hydraulic system is designed to raise and lower the platform in a stable and controlled manner. It operates through a series of articulated arms arranged in a pantograph mechanism, extending and retracting via hydraulic cylinders. When activated, the hydraulic pump forces the vegetable-based oil into the cylinders, causing them to expand and push the scissor arms open, lifting the platform evenly and securely.
- The electric system uses waterproof electric actuators or underwater linear motors to raise and lower the platform. It is powered and controlled through a sealed electrical circuit with marine-grade cabling rated IP68 or higher. The motors can be brushless or gear-driven. A brushless motor is coupled with a gear reduction system to adjust output speed and torque.
Gears are used to reduce motor speed and increase torque at the output shaft. Depending on application needs, the transmission can be cylindrical, planetary, or worm gear-based.
Electronic Control System
Regarding the electrical system, the control panel houses a Siemens control system. The PLC is connected via Ethernet to an individual Siemens Touch panel and to the yacht’s Internet network, containing the software for pool management. The Touch panel displays all necessary system information, such as water temperature and alerts. We also provide a remote control system, allowing access from anywhere in the world.
This system can be integrated with the yacht’s main control system.
Movable-Floor Pools: A Guarantee of Safety
One of the main benefits of a movable-floor pool is enhanced safety. The pool depth can be adjusted to create a shallow, child-friendly swimming area, ensuring maximum safety. For the same reason, movable-floor pools are perfectly suited to individuals with mobility impairments, offering an accessible structure with adjustable depths, even as shallow as a few centimeters.
